Following on from last year’s success with its CROSSWAY LE NP, IVECO BUS has retained the prestigious title for 2019 with its CREALIS 18m In-Motion-Charging. This brand new full electric vehicle had its world premiere at the IAA show in Hannover, Germany, on Wednesday September 19, where it was awarded the “Sustainable Bus of the Year 2019” title in the ‘Urban’ category.

London, September 24, 2018

IVECO BUS, a brand of CNH Industrial N.V. (NYSE: CNHI/MI: CNHI), unveiled the CREALIS In-Motion-Charging on the opening day of the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade show in Hannover. The vehicle has won previous acclaim from public transport specialists winning the ‘Public Transport Innovation Award’ in the ‘Move Green’ Energy-Environment category at European Mobility Week in June 2018.

Sustainability in public transport is of increasing importance and IVECO BUS, as a leading brand in this field, has launched its new electromobility range at IAA. The CREALIS In-Motion-Charging offers a more advanced and efficient electric mobility concept and completes the brand’s range of alternative tractions.

IVECO BUS now has a range of vehicles that can meet different mission requirements: electric buses offering the perfect solution for passenger transport in city centers for low speed, low energy intensity and stop-and-go missions, and natural gas, CNG, for suburban public transport, where distance, speed and energy requirements increase.

The CREALIS’ on-board batteries have been reduced to a minimum thanks to its In-Motion-Charging technology. The vehicle combines electric overhead lines with a small on-board battery thereby allowing new electric bus routes to be deployed, at no extra cost, even if there are sections without overhead lines. Operating time is maximized as the vehicle’s batteries recharge automatically when running on roads with overhead lines. The CREALIS In-Motion-Charging is also capable of running on batteries for 25% to 40% of the route.

The ‘Sustainable Bus Award’ jury is composed of representatives from seven leading European bus trade magazines. They evaluated a range of sustainability principals, specifically the ability to establish a positive image of the vehicle with the general public. Several aspects were taken into consideration, such as safety, comfort, noise levels, recyclability of components and the general sustainability commitment of the manufacturer.

IVECO BUS has established experience in this field with more than 800 units in operation throughout Europe. The verdict of the Sustainable Bus Award’s jury highlights the wide range of alternative tractions and, by selecting the new generation CREALIS, recognizes it as the benchmark in urban bus sustainability.
