Lada XCode concept revealed

The Lada XCode SUV concept has been unveiled at the 2016 Moscow motor show.

After being teased in an image uploaded to the company’s Facebook page earlier this month, the new SUV concept has been fully revealed, and it’s quite a good-looking thing.

The bright yellow show car sports the company’s new ‘X’ themed design, with a cross-shaped front fascia along with x-shaped character lines down the sides. Meanwhile the LED daytime-running light signature is also an x-shaped design.

Contrasting lower body cladding, short front and rear overhangs, a front skid plate and flared wheel arches lend the XCode a very tough, versatile look.

At the rear, the XCode’s design is far more conventional, adopting a look that is not dissimilar to the Volvo XC60 or Nissan Juke, thanks to its tall L-shaped tail-lights and skid plate with dual rectangular exhaust outlets.

The Volvo resemblance could be due to the fact it was styled under the direction of Steve Mattin, who is a former Volvo and Mercedes-Benz designer.

Inside, the XCode features a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and fully digital instrument cluster.

The company says the vehicle offers compatibility with the Lada Connect smartphone app, allowing owners to remotely control various vehicle functions including unlocking the doors, switching on the climate control along with diagnostic information.

Lada hasn’t confirmed any technical specifications for the XCode, however reports say the company has suggested it could be powered by turbocharged engines and offer the option of all-wheel drive.

Though Lada is part of the Renault-Nissan alliance, it’s unknown whether the XCode rides on the B0 platform that underpins numerous models including the Nissan Juke and Dacia Duster.

A production model based on the XCode is expected to launch in overseas markets sometime next year.
